COVID-19 Update

May 12, 2020

All

We have had a zoom meeting last night to discuss the state of affairs related to Covid 19 and our getting back to the great game of softball.

I have made the following decision for Girls Junior Olympic Play effective today I have canceled the first two tournaments in the month of June (2020 Coca-Cola Classic & 2020 USA All American ). I will update everyone by May 26 on the last 2 weekends in June, which will be the MAYSA Triple Play event and the 2020 Maine State Championships.

I have been searching for the right answers to many questions about how to get these events to happen while protecting the players, coaches and fans and keeping with the current guidelines set forth from Governor Mills office. This has been a monumental task. I have sent a request to the Governor Mills task force with a few proposed changes in how the game can be played under the current guidelines and am waiting to hear back. USA softball will be holding a board meeting on May 21st to discuss how umpires can safely do their job under guidelines that are currently in place and what changes we can make.

The Maine Principals Association has release some news for school coaches but allowing NO  player in person contact until July 5th  puts a lot of teams out of playing anything in June 2020.

I have been in contact with my counterparts throughout New England and there is a lot of hard decisions to be made in the next couple of weeks.

New Hampshire is not allowing teams to travel outside the state and not allowing out of state teams to play in New Hampshire events.

Rhode Island has canceled all Girls Junior Olympic softball for June, July and August. Teams can travel but have to quaranteen when they leave and after returning .???

Other states are still working on developing guidelines to play.

We the State of Maine USA softball will be looking to make some of those hard decisions within the next couple of weeks.

I am personally hoping Governor Mills will update the opening phases and crowd gathering limits a lot quicker than planned, which will make our events a lot easier to get started.

Reminder our top priority is the health of our athletes, familes, friends all of who are associated with USA softball.

So for know I wish all of you to be Safe, Healthy and well. We will get back to playing the game of softball soon.
